Amway Produces More Millionaires Than Any Other Type of Business

If you hear this statement, then the first logical question that should come to your mind is "How many millionaires has Amway created?" If the person making this comment cannot tell you how many millionaires have been created through Amway, how can they know they've created more millionaires?

Actually, there is a way of verifying this information. Greg Garland, an investigative reporter for The Advocate wrote a three part article called Amway: An empire built on dreams in April, 1998. As part of his investigation, he visited Amway's Corporate headquarters in Ada, MI. There he found a hall that had plaques identifying everyone who had achieved the Diamond level. If the distributor had achieved higher levels (EDC, Double Diamond, Triple Diamond, etc), then an additional plaque was hung.

So how many plaques were there? Approximately 760 in April, 1998.

Another fact that you can add in here is that back in 1996, Amway held an Achiever's International cruise. This cruise was for qualified Emeralds and above. This was a four day cruise on the Carnival cruise ship Ecstasy, which has a maximum passenger capacity of 2,040, which implies there are 1,020 cabins.

What have we got now? A couple of thousand? There may be more people who are making a fortune from the business of selling hope, but a credible arguement could be made that since they are not making their fortune by selling Amway products, they shouldn't be included. What the heck...let's just double the number to accomadate these distributors and say there are approximately 4,000 distributors who may be millionaires.

Dr. Thomas J. Stanley and Dr. William D. Danko have written a book called The Millionaire Next Door : The Surprising Secrets of America's Wealthy. In this report, they estimate that there are 3.5 million millionaires in the United States. Two thirds own their own business and one third have a J-O-B. This book lists occupations that have produced tens of thousands of millionaires.

Now let's compare Amway's numbers to these numbers of millionaires from the following top occupations that produces millionaires published in The Millionaire Next Door:

  1. Physicians -- 192,545
  2. Osteopathic Physicians -- 10,598
  3. Dentists -- 96,746
  4. Optometrists -- 12,576
  5. Chiropracters -- 32,501
  6. Drug Stores -- 8,324
  7. Vetinarians -- 19,622
  8. Legal Services -- 280,946

Compare that to Amway's 3 maybe 4,000 possible millionaires.

Finally, here is a quote from the Neil Offen, president of the Direct Selling Assocation, which Amway is a part of: "But don't believe anyone telling you that most new millionaires are coming out of network marketing. That's an absurdity."
