"Cookware Crown"

I happened across a copy of a Amway Distributor manual (L-SA-091 L) from a distributor kit issued in 1981. The manual was printed with a copyright date of 1980, and was published May 30, 1980.   The Amway wholesale price list with the manual was dated September 1, 1981.

Astonishing is the fact that Double Diamond, Triple Diamond, and Crown in this manual only required groups to qualify for one month at 7,500 PV instead of today's six months out of twelve.  Double Diamond required at least twelve, Triple diamond required 16, and Crown required 20 legs all qualifying for at least one month.    Crown Ambassador was achieved with 20 legs achieving at least three consecutive months of 7,500PV qualification.  See the scan of the requirements below.

It has been said that requirement for Crown was changed to a minimum of twenty legs for at least 3 consecutive months in the Amway fiscal year starting September 1, 1980 and ending August 31, 1981.  If you have an Amway distributor manual SA998 L-SA-091 M (Sept. 30, 1982), or L-SA-091 N (Nov. 30, 1982), or L-SA-091 O (Dec. 31, 1983), please write me.

There was an Amway/Quixtar rumor that had said that crown required only 20 legs qualifying for one month.   Jokingly, these Crowns were called "Cookware Crowns".   When I first heard this rumor I wrote Leonard Hall about it.   Although he did not confirm the 7500 pv for one month requirement before I obtained the manual, he was proud to be a "cookware crown".

Supposedly, the way many of the early Crowns got their 20 legs over was to run a special on the high PV Amway cookware.

crown_1981.jpg (33485 bytes)Since only one month of qualifying was needed, the Crown wanna-be only needed to coordinate his group so that all the cookware sets moved in the same month.   Then bingo...Amway "Cookware Crown".  I checked the wholesale price that came with the manual in the kit.    A twenty piece cookware set had 233.5 PV and cost $299 in 1981.   To get 20 legs over 7500 PV, you would have needed to move 643 cookware sets.  If 16 people in each leg bought two cookware sets then you could achieve "Cookware Crown" status.  The Crown bonus of $10,000 of course would not justify "buying" the pin.
