This and that from the 1981
Amway Distributor's Manual

amway_manual_1981_thmb.jpg (27463 bytes)I got a hold of a Amway Distributor's manual from 1981.  It was loaded with a few surprises including the fact that Double Diamonds, Triple Diamonds, and Crown direct distributor's only needed their legs to have one month of qualification in contrast to 6 months of qualification today.  A direct distributor needed three consecutive months of qualifying volume.  See the scans.

Interesting is that the Code of Ethics and rules section only took 14 pages compared to today's 52 pages.   I guess it was a much simpler world back then.

golden_rule.jpg (25815 bytes)Another interesting not is the Code of Ethics for Amway distributors.  The first and foremost principle was the "Golden Rule".  There were seven line items in the Amway code of ethics.  If you look at the Quixtar Code of Ethics for IBOs, you will see that  there are now only six.  It seems that the "Golden Rule" was not important after a while.  Maybe Quixtar would have fewer problems if they reinstated the Golden Rule principle!

All those distributors being hauled into arbitration can be assured that those rules changes being used against them by Quixtar, would not have been used to "deprive them of a substantial and material property rights in their distributorship."  See Middleton, Anderson, and Morrision cases.

Last but not least Amway defined a pyramid scheme as a scheme where retail selling is de-emphasized or totally ignored!  Boy, that sounds like Quixtar being promoted by the lines of sponsorship today!
