Man, 37, booked on drug count

A Prairieville businessman was arrested Tuesday on allegations that he illegally obtained prescription drugs, police records show.

Mark Monroe Dean, 37, 15383 Ryan Ave., Prairieville, surrendered to police and was booked into Parish Prison with obtaining controlled dangerous substances by fraud. He was in prison 28 minutes and was released on his own recognizance, booking records show.

Dean, an Amway distributor who is the son of LSU Athletic Director Joe Dean, is accused of posing as his doctor and calling in a prescription for Valium on July 26, his arrest warrant said.

The pharmacist at the Eckerd Drug Store at 4530 S. Sherwood Forest Blvd. Called Dean's doctor at home to confirm the prescription and learned it was fraudulent, the warrant said.

Police allowed Dean to pick up the prescription and then arrested him, the warrant said.

He was later released because Parish Prison was full, the warrant said.

Nathan Fisher, Dean's attorney, said Dean surrendered to police Tuesday to be re-arrested.

Fisher said Dean will seek counseling and treatment.

"He's going to deal with it in the best way he knows how," Fisher said.
